Johannes Claes werkt sinds 2021 bij IOB. Zijn onderzoek richt zich vooral op veiligheid en inzet in militaire missies, en daarnaast op migratie. Voorafgaand aan zijn rol bij IOB werkte Johannes op conflict en migratie in de Sahel. Hij woonde en werkte onder andere in Niger en Senegal en voerde veldwerk uit in Mali en Burkina Faso. Johannes behaalde een MA Geschiedenis en een MSc Beleidseconomie aan de Universiteit van Leuven.
